I don't believe in the undecided voter. From what I've seen, people are either strongly decided or don't seem to care. Seriously, anyone who remains undecided after all of this nonsense will probably still be too confused to vote by election day.

For all that I feel strongly about politics, I seldom bring it up. For one thing, I got slammed quite often back when I lived in southern VA, and I have no wish to be labeled the "office liberal" at my new job. For another, it just gets nasty these days.

During lunch at work today, talk about baseball drifted accidentally into mention of last night's debate, and the people at my end of the table found themselves hesitantly presenting their preferences for the upcoming election. A latecomer to the table arrived and paused, hearing the conversation. "I'm, uh," he said quietly, "voting Democrat. That's okay, right? I can sit?"

"Yeah," we said, grinning but keeping our voices down. No one wanted to cause a fuss. The subject was quickly changed back to the Yankees/Red Sox game, and everyone relaxed. I haven't noticed much political discussion around the coffeepot these days. People would much rather talk about the latest sports rivalries. We're much more comfortable with that sort of disagreement.

Right now, WETA is playing clips of young John Kerry interviews. It's pretty unsettling; if you close your eyes, the man sounds exactly the same. He's less wrinkled and has darker hair, but his facial expressions are eerily familiar, and his voice and diction are completely indistinguishable from the present.

And for them as would like 'em, there are some pretty hilarious Bushwhacking jokes going on in Teresa Nielsen Hayden's blog.
