Feb. 7th, 2008 03:23 pmSince the Chinese language makes no differentiation between "mouse" and "rat," it was always the year of the mouse for me. I didn't know that it was Rat Year until I saw my first zodiac placemat. It was a bit of a disappointment, but at least their rat illustration was very cute.
Happy new year! In celebration, I shall be acquiring oranges. The Cantonese are all about puns and the word for "orange" is pretty close to the word for "money." Besides, vitamin C is always good.
Firecrackers are also a traditional form of celebration, but that usually takes a bit more effort.
