under pressure

...I wrote 14,302 words today. My fingers hurt. I may quite well have developed carpal tunnel. But I finished the #%&@ novel.

Slightly over 2k of said words were at work, during lunch break and while I was waiting for my simluations to run. The other 12k were written at home, between the hours of seven and midnight. K did not let me watch basketball (the meanie) even though Maryland was playing Minnesota. He cooked dinner and all but fed it to me. At about 10:30, I found out I could type much faster if I didn't use capitals. At about 11, I stopped going back to fix spelling errors (I typed with my eyes closed). And thus I made the 50k wordcount, with ten whole minutes to spare before the deadline.

I owe K, and I owe melindaloquita for the silly cheering. And my deepest thanks to bkleber for being understanding when I stood him up for rock climbing, just so I could finish this piece of ridiculousness.

And now, to bed.

yup! that's half the point - to write without the pressure of the internal editor (something I'm really terrible at). There are folks who consider December to be NaNoEdMo (editing month) but I'm not aware of any actual publishing coming out of that; as for me I tend to need more distance between me and my mutant November creations. (I still can't quite face the one I wrote in '03.)
