signs of the season

Apple picking with
proserpia,
melindaloquita, and
bkleber: a lovely, misty morning spent among rain-wet apple trees at Butler's Orchard; sunlit raspberry bushes dripping with fruit. A lazy afternoon spent making pie and crocheting, cold air coming through the window, my afghan warm on my legs.
Oktoberfest celebration at Blob's Park, large helpings of sausage with larger pitchers of beer. Singing the holiday music for Camerata: rousing, joyous Latin. Cider mulled with cinnamon and ginger; apple butter on freshly-baked bread; scent of curried squash filling the kitchen.
Red-gold leaves on the trees and long-sleeved sweaters that cover my wrists as I type; long fuzzy scarves to throw over my shoulders. Furtively scribbling novel plots for November during meetings. Snuggling into bed between down blanket and flannel sheets, the cat purring on the pillow beside me.
I scraped frost off the car today, and my feet crunched on fallen leaves in the parking lot.
Autumn is my favorite time of year.

Date: 2006-10-13 02:05 pm (UTC)I have no ideas for NaNo this year. I am considering a small string of related short stories, because more than anything, I need to work on endings.

Date: 2006-10-15 08:56 pm (UTC)My endings suck too... my favorite NaNo work is the one I haven't finished yet, because all the rest of them have such lame "need to get to 50000 now" deus ex machina endings. But the short story string sounds like even more work - an entire month full of writing endings. Would be cool, though. Good luck!
Thanks for lovely posts.
Date: 2006-10-14 01:00 pm (UTC)So I take it that the food at Blob's Park is very good? It entertains me that they appear to have Oktoberfest all month long. Makes sense. Ari and I will have to go and drag people along.
Things here have yet to frost. The leaves have yet to fall in ways so that they may crunch.
I already miss summer. At least autumn's gorgeous.

Well, I mean, it's sausages. Sausages are always awesome. And there's jagerschnitzel, which is K's favorite dish, and other kinds of schnitzel (man I hope I'm spelling that right). But I always go for the sausages.
If you want people to drag along, K and I are always up for that sort of thing. If our calendars are free. :)
